The SALUS Group is seeking a Palliative Care Simulation Coordinator with extensive clinical experience in Palliative Care to create educational activities and events for Veterans Administration (VA) providers at the Dayton VA Medical Center, and numerous medical facilities throughout the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 10 in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Kentucky. *This job involves travel.* The candidate will join our diverse team of dedicated, customer-focused professionals and high-end team of simulation experts and work in an exciting, fast-paced and highly successful company.

Palliative Care Educator Roles and Responsibilities:

Simulation Development Services:

Virtual Patient Cases: You will lead a cutting-edge medical simulation development team to create virtual patient (VP) cases utilizing DecisionSim™ software. You will receive training on software operations and case development, and closely collaborate with our client, VA subject experts, and the instructional designers provided by our industry-teaming partner Decision Simulation, LLC. You will coordinate and facilitate the activities of a geographically dispersed Palliative Care Simulation Development Team, which may include subject experts from VISN 10 and the National VA Office of Geriatrics and Extended Care Services, medical writers, instructional designers and multimedia specialists.

Standardized Patient Program: Standardized patient (SP) actors are specifically trained to act as Veteran patients for the instruction, practice and assessment of VA provider competency. You will assist in the design of SP cases, develop SP scripts, and participate in SP training activities in support of the VISN 10 Palliative Care Standardized Patient Program. You will oversee the scheduling of educational events and coordinate with simulation educators and provider staff at each of the VISN 10 training sites. You will also assist in the development of performance measures, and participate in data collection and analysis.

Palliative Care Conferences: Throughout the year, the Dayton VA Simulation Center will host 1-day Palliative Care Conferences for VISN 10 providers. These conferences will include guest speakers, and a combination of SP and VP case studies. You will assist in conference design, organization, execution, reporting and oversight.

Your primary responsibilities will be to:

Collaborate with our client and VA subject experts to design, develop and deliver completed palliative care virtual and standardized patient cases that will be used in educational programs for VISN 10 providers.

Utilize DecisionSim™ virtual patient tools and standardized patient script templates to create palliative care cases that meet specific client needs.

Coordinate with VISN 10 sites to develop a master schedule for palliative care training events.

Organize and oversee palliative care conferences.

Manage the project team and resolve project issues. You will work closely with Decision Simulation instructional designers and regularly communicate project status to our client and our Chief Operations Officer.

Ensure that client satisfaction and schedule goals are met.

Create curriculum based upon learning needs assessment for assigned topic areas. You will travel with the Mobile Simulation Program to deliver authored content to VA staff members.

As a key member of our experienced team, you will report to our Mobile Simulation Operational Manager. You will act as an important conduit between our leadership and our clients.

You will provide advice and guidance to the company’s leadership on educational content, analysis and recommendations on educational strategy, project roadmaps and response planning by identifying and validating client requirements as well as relevant education goals and standards of care.


To succeed in this position, you must have:

Skill and experience in the areas of palliative care, adult learning, project management, learner assessment, and a familiarity with educational technologies.

Experience in analyzing educational requirements and learning objectives.

Experience in educational projects to deliver multiple projects in a short time frame.

You must have a Bachelors or Masters (preferred) degree in nursing or social work with at least 3 years of clinical experience in palliative care.
